Cooperative Bank Leadership Summit
31 Aug 2018 - 1 Sep 2018
Financial Inclusion, although no more a new word in today’s inclusive banking was the result of tireless dedication of the Indian Government & Hon’ble PM’s vision of banking the unbanked. It wouldn’t have been possible without the ample & appropriate support of India’s Cooperative Banks be it state run, urban, or district run. This devotion of Cooperative Banks has been in our ecosystem since ages whether it is for agriculture, small scale businesses or small ticket loans. It is due to the successful reach of cooperative banks that India today boasts of robust banking & financial services.
However, despite the mammoth growth Cooperative banks have witnessed in the recent years, they still lack professional management with distressed assets & NPA’s burning a hole in their pockets. The urban cooperative banks barring a few are also undergoing depleting customer confidence due to inadequate technological intervention & security. Nevertheless, despite the shortcomings these banks face in lieu of fierce competition from Nationalised & Private banks they are perfect examples of bringing the rural population into formal banking channels thus paving way for national growth & development. Therefore, Cooperative banks hold key importance in improving the socio-economic structure of our nation & hence it is indeed critical to nurture & solidifying their foundation.
The Economic Times Initiative: We, at The Economic Times have supported & facilitated knowledge platforms, summits & initiatives for strengthening the financial base of banking & financial services sector of our Indian economy & Cooperative banks being one of the most significant pillar for a cohesive development needs more attention in this era of social media & marketing. This summit endeavours to delve into the opportunities & challenges the Cooperative banks face while maintaining strict regulatory framework & optimising ROI keeping customer at its centric focus.
