The Economic Times Best BFSI Brands Coffee Table Book 2019

Overview of the BFSI Industry

There’s a new kind of drive in the BFSI sector, leading to major Transformations in the sector. Strong Economic fundamentals, favourable regulatory climate, and transformational technologies are more readily accessible, powerful, and economical than ever before. Such transformations are bringing more transparency in financial transaction and are strengthening the efforts to offer the banking services to people in far flung areas. This would lead to creating positive business sentiments and enhancing consumer confidence to elevate the country’s economic growth. In this context, the in technology advancements is playing a vital role such as banking services through mobile and interest modes. Encouraged by the Prime Minister vision of Digital India, India’s digital payments system has evolved the most among 25 countries with India’s Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) being the only system at level 5 in the Faster Payments Innovation Index (FPII).

It is also a fact that Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has rolled out certain innovative banking models like payments and small finance banks. In order to intensify the competition, 10 small finance banks were set up in FY 2015-16 particularly in the hinterland of India with new products, technology, higher rates to woo depositors, and lower rates to sell loans. This initiative will help in bringing the unbanked population under banking gamut, thereby supporting and encouraging the financial inclusion agenda of the Government. These banks will be less dependent on cash and more on digital technology, enabling them to cover people from the hinterland areas deprived of banking services till now. These measures of RBI’s may go a long way in order to restructure the domestic banking industry.

The Economic Times Best BFSI Brands Initiative:

In such a dynamic scenario, the BFSI sector and large commercial banks are taking greater risks and exploring newer channels to infuse dynamism in their various areas of operations. The cost of funds fluctuates rapidly and there is increased competition from both inside and outside the traditional banking industry. With growing competitiveness in the banking industry, and similarity of services offered by banks, it has become increasingly important that banks identify the factors that determine the basis upon which customers choose between providers of financial services.
