Dr. Kiran Bedi is the first woman in India to have joined the officer ranks of Indian Police Service.
She served in it for 35 years and moved up to the highest rank, as Director General, Bureau of Police Research and Development, Government of India.
Dr. Bedi served as Police Advisor to the Secretary-General of the United Nations in the Department of Peace Keeping Operations in New York.
She is recipient of The Ramon Magsaysay Award, also called Asia's Nobel Peace Award for bringing about a positive relationship between Police and the People.
Dr. Bedi is a Law graduate, Masters, and a PhD Scholar from IIT Delhi, with post-doctoral Nehru Fellowship.
She is an author of several books such as I Dare, It's Always Possible, As I see, Creating Leadership and more...
Dr. Bedi has been voted as the most admired and trusted woman in India by Readers Digest, The Week Magazine, and others over the years. She has a biopic on her life called, Yes Madam Sir, made by an Australian film maker.
She is running two NGOs, NAVJYOTI and India Vision Foundation that reach out to marginalised sections of society in education, skills development, in urban and rural areas as well as prisons.
She is an academic and has been a visiting faculty with Iclif, a Leadership Training Institute in Malaysia.

Director General Medical Services (Air)
Air Marshal Rajan Singh Grewal AVSM VSM assumed the appointment of Director General Medical Services (Air) on 01 Apr 19.
The Air Marshal, an alumnus of Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune, was commissioned in Army Medical Corps in 1981. He topped the Advance Specialist Course in Dermatology from AFMC Pune, in 1989. He was appointed as Associate Professor of Dermatology by the University of Pune in 2000, and later started the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) (Dermatology) programme at Command Hospital (WC) Chandimandir in 2003. He was designated as Professor and HoD of the integrated Department of Dermatology at AFMC and Command Hospital (Southern Command) Pune from 2006 to 2011. He has been MD Examiner, Assessor and Inspector of the National Board of Examinations (NBE) and Medical Council of India (MCI), including various universities and interview panellist at UPSC. The Air Officer was elected as National Vice President of Indian Association of Dermatologists (2008-09) and has been Central Council Member of IADVL from 2004 till date.
The Air Marshal commanded 153 General Hospital, which is a unique multispeciality tertiary care centre in high altitude area in Leh (J&K) from 2011-12; and later Command Hospital (Southern Command) Pune in 2016-17. He has also been the Brig IC Administration & Commander Troops of Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt in 2012-13. The staff appointments tenanted by him include Deputy Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (Provisioning) followed by Additional Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (Equipment & Stores) from 2013 to 2016 and Major General (Medical), Headquarters Eastern Command from Mar 2017 to Mar 2018. He was promoted to the rank of Lt Gen and assumed the appointment of Director General (Organisation & Personnel) Armed Forces Medical Services from 02 Apr 2018. He was elected as Colonel Commandant, Army Medical Corps with effect from 29 Oct 2018.
The Air Marshal has been bestowed with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2019, Vishisht Seva Medal in 2004, Chief of Army Staff Commendations in 1999 and 2012, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (Eastern Command) and (Western Command) Commendations in 1998 and 2003, respectively. He has also been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award of ‘Teacher Par Excellence’, by Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists in 2013, the Dr Ferdinand Handa Medal during National DERMACON-1992 and the Dr Ranganathan Memorial Gold Medal for best scientific paper in the National IASSTD Conference in 1998. He was selected as Member Board of PG Studies, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences from 2008 to 2011. He has published textbooks on Dermatology for MBBS students and paramedics; in addition to contributing chapters in acclaimed books and scientific publications in reputed journals.
An avid sportsman, the Air Marshal won the Open Doubles Championship of Kolkata garrison in 2018. He was also the Runner up in
Tri-Services (Eastern Command) Lawn Tennis Championship (1998) and Southern Command Inter Services Lawn Tennis Tournament (1992-93). His other spheres of interest include military medicine, occupational dermatoses, and communication and soft skills.
The Air Marshal is married to Dr Gurpreet Kaur Grewal, MBBS, DGO, MDHM, veteran Major of AMC. The couple have two sons Major Sanmeet, an Armoured Corps Officer, and Dr Himmat who is doing Fellowship in Pulmonology & Critical Care in the USA.
DR. (h.c.) Deepa Malik
Braving Chest-below paralysis and spinal tumour treatment for almost 20 years; Deepa is on a mission – Ability Beyond Disability. She is an international sportsperson par excellence and recipient of Five Prestigious President of India Awards & honours – Padma Shri (Ministry of Home Affairs); Arjuna Award (Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports); President’s National Role Model Award (Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment); Women Transforming India Award (NITI Aayog, United Nations India & MyGov) and 'First Ladies Award' (Ministry of Women & Child Development) as well as 5 state governments’ honours.
She is a motivational speaker who has been conferred the International Human Rights Council’s ‘Exceptional Speaker Award’, among many other prestigious awards and recognitions to her name. She holds Four Limca World Records in the Adventure Category, she is the first woman to represent the country at international level sports in her category of disability (F-53). She is also the first ever Indian paraplegic woman swimmer, biker and car rallyist.
With a count of 23 international medals and 68 national & state level medals in swimming, javelin, shotput & discus events, she has been recognized as Global Woman of the Year 2019 by International Paralympic Committee. Deepa Malik has been selected as the Sir Edmund Hillary Prime Minister’s fellow 2019 by New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern for NZ – India bilateral relations.
Deepa Malik has created history by becoming the first ever Indian female Para athlete to win an Asian Games medal in athletics as well as the first ever female World Championship medal. She is also India's first ever female Paralympic Medallist across any sport. She has created history by becoming the only Indian woman athlete ever to win medals at 3 successive Asian Games and retain the Asian Record in Javelin throw throughout the years. She also holds a world record in open river swimming for swimming across the Yamuna River for 1km against the current.
Deepa is also a record holder in driving customised cars & motorbikes; she became the first ever physically challenged person (man or woman) in the world to get a rally licence to compete in the ‘Raid-de-Himalaya’ car rally on the world's highest motorable roads. Deepa Malik has created yet another record by doing a pan-India drive to promote para-sports in the country and spread the message of Ability Beyond Disability.
Dr.(h.c.) Deepa Malik has been awarded Honoris Causa Doctorate by ITM University, India for her outstanding contribution to the fields of sports and adventure sports in India; and another Honoris Causa Doctorate by Raffles University, India for her contribution to social work.
Deepa contributed immensely towards better sports policies for physically challenged in her role as a member of the Working Group for the Formulation of 12th Five Year Plan (2012 – 2017). Deepa works closely with the government to implement progressive & inclusive policies. She has been a ‘Clean India’ brand ambassador for New Delhi Municipal Corporation and expert consultant for Disability Inclusive Accessible Infrastructure for Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs ‘Smart Cities’ project.
As the founder of Wheeling Happiness Foundation, she has taken up the cause of enhancing the emotional health of persons with challenges and empowering women through outdoor sports, motor sports and adventure activities and also assisting the training and sports equipment requirements of para sports persons. Deepa Malik has assisted many physically challenged persons to learn driving & sports and hence live a more self – reliant life.
Dr S. I. Padmavati
All India Heart Foundation
Dr.Padmavati was born in British Burma and qualified M.B.B.S from the medical College Rangoon.She had to leave Burma suddenly due to world war-II and settled in India.She was a brilliant student in school & college and stood first in British Burma and was the best outstanding student in the MBBS exams winning many awards and gold medals.After the ward war II, she did her post-graduate studies in the U.K (London & Edin) and specialized in Cardiology in Sweden and the USA (Johns Hopkins Hospital and Harvard University) after the War ended in 1945.
On return to India, she joined the Lady Hardinge Medical College as Lecturer in Medicine, subsequently becoming Professor and Head of the Department.Later she moved to Maulana Azad Medical College as Director Principal and Consultant in Cardiology and Director at Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital.After retirement, she set up the National Heart Institute of the All India Heart Foundation and has been working there since as Director & President All India Heart Foundation.
She has been involved in patient care, research and teaching in both medical colleges and now at the National Heart Institute & All India Heart Foundation.Her research work has been on Rheumatic Heart Disease, Cor Pulmonale, Hypertension, and Coronary Artery Disease with special reference to epidemiology and prevention. She has published extensively in prestigious journals in India and abroad. She has taught undergraduates postgraduates and postdoctoral fellows for over 45 years. She is regarded as a pioneer in heart disease in India specially Rheumatic Heart disease and Co-Pulmanale.
She has been President of the Cardiological Society of India, National Academy of Medical Sciences, Member Governing Body Indian Council of Medical Research and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences University of Delhi, member Governing body, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, Bangalore
She is responsible for the development of the All India Heart Foundation as an important NGO for Preventive Cardiology. It is now a center for public health education, research, capacity building and population outreach. She set up the National Heart Institute in India to further these objectives and it has now developed into a Tertiary Care Centre of excellence in Delhi.
She is a pioneer in Preventive Cardiology in India. The AIHF has been a collaborative Centre for Preventive Cardiology of the WHO for 27 years. She has been involved & published extensively in the prevention of RHD, Chronic Co Pulmonale, Hypertension & IHD. Laxmi, once known as the acid attack survivor, is now known as just Laxmi, who is a mother, a symbol of courage, hope and love for life. She is a motivational speaker and a messenger for millions of social voices. She was 15 when she was attacked by her stalker with acid in 2005. He thought he will kill her dreams. She was also awarded by prestigious Mother Teresa Award in 2018.
Being a TedEx speaker she has inspired millions of people and emphasised on the strength of inner beauty. She has been invited by many corporates, schools, colleges and other institutions for motivational talk.
For her exemplary courage and contribution to society, she was honoured at the famous show of "India's Next Superstar" where her life story was portrayed through an act.

Former Indian Hockey Team Captain and DSP, Haryana
Sandeep Singh, also known by his nickname 'Flicker Singh', is an Indian hockey player and a former captain of the Indian national hockey team and currently serving as the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Haryana.
He entered international matches in January 2004 in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Kuala Lumpur. He became the captain of the Indian hockey team in January 2009. He is considered to be one of the most dangerous drag-flickers in the world. Sandeep, who usually plays as a full back and is a corner specialist, can reportedly reach drag speeds of over 145 km/hr. Sandeep Singh is one of the top scorers in the Indian hockey team and the team was qualified for 2012 Summer Olympics in London by winning the France in the Olympic qualifiers. He scored five goals in that match including a hat trick.
Apart from the national team, he has also played for several clubs in the Australian and European leagues, as well as the Hockey India League. After taking coaching lessons during his time playing in the Australian league, he is now eager to train Indian drag-flickers at the grass-root level. By his own admission, "skill wise and going by conversion rate" he is still the No.1 drag-flicker in India.
He is running a foundation call “Flickers Brothers” where he give training to under privileged boys and girls from grass root.
When he was coming up in hockey, he met with an accident that crippled him for two years. He was injured in an accidental gunshot on 22nd August 2006 when he was going to join the Indian team to take part in the World Cup match in Germany two days after that. That incident caused him to be paralyzed and made him to stick to wheel chair for two years. However, he never stopped dreaming about returning to the field, and eventually made a successful comeback to the national team.
A biopic call “SOORMA” has been made by Sony pictures to show case his life story from childhood till now. Diljeet Dosanj and Tapsi Pannu has played as lead role in the film.

ENT Surgeon, Medical Device Innovator, Author and Stand-up Comedian
Dr. Jagdish Chaturvedi is an ENT Surgeon, Medical Device Innovator, Author and Stand-up Comedian.
He trained at St. John’s Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore (2009-2011), a Stanford-India Biodesign (SIB) Fellow 2012, and holds an MBA degree in Entrepreneurship and Hospital Management (NIBM,2013). His core expertise lies in the process of identifying and analyzing unmet clinical needs for quick development of low-cost and high quality medical devices, and teaching/ training the Biodesign process.
Since 2010, he has co-invented and developed 18 affordable medical devices addressing the unmet needs in the Indian healthcare system, many of which have been taken over by indigenous companies, while some have formed startup companies for further development and commercialisation. Dr. Jagdish Chaturvedi is currently Founder and Director of HiiiH Innovations Private Limited. He continues his clinical career as a Sinus Specialist at Fortis Hospital, Bangalore as Visiting Consultant in Ear nose and throat surgery.
He is recognized as one of the 35 innovators under the age of 35 by the MIT technology review 2016. He is also a stand-up comedian, popularized by his YouTube channel “Jagdish Chaturvedi” and is the author of the best selling book on medical device innovations called “Inventing Medical Devices – A perspective from India”, ” The benefits of failing successfully” and “One year of Stand up comedy”.
